Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix

Nonsurgical hair regrowth and maintenance with a simple blood draw

To obtain your own Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM), a simple blood draw is performed. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the whole cells from the plasma (the liquid portion of the blood). The plasma contains platelets, which are central in blood clotting, but also essential in the early stages of wound healing. They secrete a wide range of natural growth factors that assist in healing and rejuvenation. By extracting the plasma from the blood draw, we are able to harness these platelets and their growth factors. At this phase, this extract is called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). Our system takes this one step further by initiating the natural clotting cascade, which forms a matrix from fibrin, another natural component of plasma. This is then injected in small amounts throughout the scalp. What this matrix does is hold the platelets in the area of injection to allow sustained release of the growth factors. This sustained release with PRFM can last up to 5-7 days rather than mere hours with traditional PRP.

At Youthful Images, we proudly use the Selphyl system of PRFM. Backed by research, this system has been providing many patients with an excellent nonsurgical hair maintenance option.

Sustained Growth Factor Release

Platelets are involved in the first steps of healing. They are able to release a whole array of growth factor that are integral to the process of healing and growth. PRFM harnesses this power for the use of hair growth. By injecting the PRFM around the hair follicles, they are bathed in a pool of growth factors that promote revitalization of the follicle. This is a key factor in not just hair growth, but also hair maintenance. It is one of the most useful tools in preventing further hair loss
