Before and After Pictures

Reverse the signs of aging with a facelift in Bloomfield to achieve a younger-looking appearance. Sagging skin can make you look tired and aged. Getting a cosmetic procedure like a facelift at Youthful Images can significantly improve your look. Dr. Patrick Felice performs this surgery with great care and experience to achieve natural-looking results.

What is a Facelift or Rhytidectomy?

A Facelift or Rhytidectomy is a type of plastic surgery that is designed to improve the appearance of the face by removing excess skin and tightening the muscles in the face.

Ideal candidates for a facelift

You are a good candidate for this surgery if you want to smooth away wrinkles and creases on your face and neck. You have to be in good overall health before you can be recommended to undergo a facelift. If you smoke, you may need to take additional steps before you can come in for a rhytidectomy.

This surgery is performed on individuals who have noticed increased sagging of the skin or drooping of the muscles of the face. The age varies as to when an individual may require this procedure. Dr. Felice has performed facelifts on people from age 39 to 80. His personal feeling about the facelift is that it should be performed to create a very natural, rejuvenated look that should never reveal a “surgical” or “pulled” appearance. The face is divided into multiple aesthetic units. It is imperative to understand how aging affects these components and address the issues on a very individual basis.

What to expect during a Facelift (Rhytidectomy) consultation:

During your plastic surgery consultation for a Facelift or Rhytidectomy at Youthful Images, Dr. Felice will review your medical history, examine your face, discuss your expectations, review the Facelift or Rhytidectomy procedure, discuss the recovery period, review other patient photographs and take your picture so that he can review with you the plans he has for your new look. Finally, we will discuss the cost of the procedure. In addition, we accept several different financing options if they may be of interest to you.

It is also important to note that if you have any questions, this is the best time to ask Dr. Felice. Discuss your expectations and goals so that you can get the most out of your surgical procedure.

What is a facelift like?

Dr. Felice has perfected the short scar facelift over the last 20 years. The incisions are placed to match the normal contours of the ears for nearly invisible scars. In addition, his techniques have reduced recovery times while extending the longevity of the lift.

Many times a full facelift (forehead, cheeks, and neck) is not necessary; a regional facelift or mid facelift may be all that is needed to rejuvenate the face. Again, this is where individualization of the patient’s needs is critical and experience in performing facelifts paramount.

Expected Recovery Time for a Facelift or Rhytidectomy:

The approximate recovery time for a Facelift (Rhytidectomy) is 14 days. Swelling and bruising are normal and should disappear within a few days. You may be prescribed pain medication to help manage the discomfort. After two weeks, you may go back to your normal activities but must avoid strenuous exercises.

You will also be scheduled for check-up appointments. In some cases, subsequent procedures must be done to achieve the best results.

FACELIFT FAQs:

Are the results of a facelift permanent?

Yes, a facelift achieves long-lasting results, but it does not stop the natural aging process. Genetics, lifestyle, and skincare routines influence  results.

How does a facelift differ from a mini-facelift?

A facelift is a more extensive procedure that addresses sagging in the mid-face, jowls, and neck area. It involves a surgeon making incisions around the ears and, occasionally, under the chin. Conversely, a mini-facelift is a less invasive procedure on specific areas of concern, often with shorter incisions and less downtime.

Will there be noticeable scars after the surgery?

While facelift surgery does result in some scarring, a skilled surgeon places incisions in inconspicuous locations, such as around the ears and the hairline. Over time, these scars typically fade and become less noticeable.

Can a facelift be combined with other procedures?

Yes, patients often combine a facelift with other cosmetic procedures like eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), brow lift, or neck liposuction. Afacelift with additional procedures provides a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

How do I choose a qualified surgeon for a facelift?

It’s crucial to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in facelift procedures. Research their credentials, read through reviews, and check before-and-after photos. Get to know surgeons through consultations so that you feel comfortable and confident in their abilities.

How long does the procedure take?

On average, a standard facelift surgery typically takes around 2 to 5 hours. However, the duration may vary depending on the extent of the procedure and whether performing additional surgeries simultaneously.

Will I need general anesthesia for a facelift?

Facelift surgeries will involve general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on the surgeon’s recommendations and the extent of the procedure. Your surgeon will discuss anesthesia options during your consultation to ensure your safety and comfort.

What is the typical recovery time after a facelift?

The recovery period after a facelift varies from person to person, but most patients can expect some swelling and bruising for a few weeks. It may take several months for the full results to become apparent.

Are there non-surgical alternatives to a facelift?

Yes, non-surgical options like dermal fillers, Botox, and laser treatments can address mild to moderate signs of aging. However, the results are temporary compared to a facelift.

What are the potential risks and complications associated with a facelift?

Facelift surgery is generally safe when performed by a skilled surgeon, but like any surgical procedure, there are potential risks. These may include infection, bleeding, scarring, or changes in sensation. Your surgeon will discuss these risks during your consultation.
