Facial wrinkle fillers are used when natural aging and lifestyle factors diminish
the natural collagen layer that supports the skin. And where collagen
diminishes, unwelcome lines and wrinkle may appear. Facial wrinkle fillers are also used for
correcting prominent nasolabial folds, cheek elevation, enlargement of lips, and
elevation of acne scars. Treatment results are immediate and typically last
three to twelve months, depending on the area being treated and which type of
facial wrinkle filler is used. Without ongoing treatments, the facial wrinkle
filler is gradually absorbed by
the body and your face returns to its original contours. There are several types
of facial wrinkle fillers including Restylane®, Radiesse™,
Juvederm™ Ultra Plus, Perlane®, Prevelle™.and Sculptra.
The facial wrinkle fillers offer these important advantages:
Restylane® and Perlane®
Restylane® and Perlane® restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct
moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. They are
both composed of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid (a natural substance that already
exists in the human body). Perlane® has larger gel particles and is intended to
be injected deeper within the skin. The treatment results last an average of six to
twelve months.

Sculptra
Sculptra is not used to correct specific
lines on the face, but rather to restores volume and
fullness loss during the aging process. This filler
generally requires three treatments, four to eight
weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Sculptra is
composed of Poly-L-Lactic Acid, a synthetic,
biocompatible synthetic substance widely used in
dissolvable sutures and soft tissue implants.
Treatment results last typically two or more years.

Radiesse™
Radiesse™ is used in correcting prominent nasolabial folds,
cheek elevation, enlargement of lips, and elevation of acne scars. It is
comprised of smooth, 40 micron spheres of synthetic calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa)
suspended in gel with sodium carboxymethylcellulose media. Because CaHa is
normal constituent of bone, Radiesse™ should not elicit an immune response.
Therefore, skin testing as used with collagen, is unnecessary. CaHa is not a new
material in human prosthetic implants. It has been used in both dental and
orthopedic reconstruction, augmentation of the cheek and lips, and acting as
substrate for bone growth. Studies in soft tissue have shown the material
remains soft, without the creation of cartilage or bone.
The material is injected after a local anesthetic is
administered. There is some swelling and potential bruising similar to collagen
injections. The advantages over collagen are lack of allergic reaction and
longevity.
The treatment results last on average 1
year.
